Project Overview :
Our objective is to design a user-friendly and visually engaging dashboard for households to manage their 5G network usage. The dashboard simplifies the complexities of network control by offering a clean interface to monitor costs, usage, connected devices, and parental control options.
Key Features :
Data Visualization: Real-time usage tracking and billing trends.
Device Management: Ability to view, manage, and disconnect devices from the 5G network.
Parental Control: Easy setup for restricting access and monitoring devices.
Subscription Management: Intuitive options to upgrade, downgrade, or cancel plans.
Target Audience :
Primary Users: Families and household heads managing multiple devices.
Secondary Users: Small businesses with connected devices needing cost and usage control.
Personas & User-Stories :
After interviewing Single Parents, elderly people and young teens, we made these cards to represent their needs and frustrations.
Problem Statement :
Managing a 5G network for multiple devices can be challenging, especially for non-technical users. After seeing the competitor apps, the issues we have found:
Lack of clarity in data usage and cost.
UI not very user-friendly or easily understandable,
Limited tools for parental control over connected devices.
Complex subscription management processes.
The Makia 5G Dashboard solves these issues by providing a unified platform for monitoring, control and user-centric UI.
Design Process :
Market Research :
We started with competitor analysis. After analyzing apps like 'Google Family Link' and Circle Home Plus' , we noted the gaps, takeaways and implications. Those are :
Simplicity is Critical:
Most existing solutions overwhelm users with complex interfaces.
Our design will focus on an intuitive, minimalistic UI suitable for non-tech-savvy parents and older users.
Parental Control Gaps:
Scheduling capabilities are often limited or complex.
Implement robust, flexible scheduling to manage device access times, especially useful during exams or discipline periods.
Usage & Billings Transparency:
Existing tools lack clear, user-friendly usage & cost breakdowns.
Implement robust, flexible scheduling to manage device access times, especially useful during exams or discipline periods.
MVP Definition :
Dashboard:
Overview of key metrics: total data usage, current costs, and number of connected devices.
Quick action buttons: Pause/Resume 5G access.
Device Management :
List of all connected devices with status indicators.
Control panel for each device: enable/disable 5G, view usage.
Functionality to add or remove devices easily.
Parental Controls:
Set schedules for enabling/disabling 5G on specific device& set usage limits.
Immediate lock/unlock function for individual devices.
Justification Based on Research :
The MVP focuses on simplicity and essential functionalities that address common gaps in existing solutions. By emphasizing parental controls, transparent cost management, and intuitive device handling, this product ensures a user-friendly experience tailored for household leaders managing 5G networks.
User-Flow & Wireframes :
After defining our MVP, we started brainstorming to create our User-flow based on our user persona cards. We used Figjam tool to do this step.
On the Left, You can see our User-Flow Diagram. Here below, a simple sketch of our wire-frame.
Design System :
We started our design process by looking for inspiration. Having our MVP on mind, We started thinking what will look good, what will be User-friendly and interactive. Few of the inspiration photos on the left. (from Dribble)
Here below, an image of our Design System to keep our app clean, consistent and maintain modern-tech theme.
Our Final Design :
Here is the final mock up design in Figma. On the right top you see the metrics we used to access our result.
Future Enhancements :
Continuous integration :
Interactive Prototype: Plan to create an interactive prototype in Framer, showcasing hover states, animations, and transitions.
AI Integration: Future iterations could include predictive analytics for usage and cost management.
